【摘要】:ThisInternationalStandardestablishesasystemforthetransliterationofThaicharactersintoRomancharacters.Onesetofrulesisprovidedforacompletelyreversiblestringentconversionwhereprinciplesoftransliterationareappliedwithoutexception.ThisRomanizedtransliterationsystemisameansofconvertingtheThaiwritingsystemintoaRomanalphabetwritingsystem.SincetherearefewerRomancharactersthanThaicharacters,diacriticalmarks,punctuationmarks,andacombinationoftwoRomancharacters,oradigraph,areneededtorepresentoneThaicharacter.Theaimofthissystemistoprovideameansofinternationalcommunicationofwrittenmessagesinaformwhichpermitstheautomatictransmissionorreconstitutionofthesebymenormachines.Thissystemofconversionisintendedtoprovidecompleteandunambiguousreversibility.ItispossiblethattheresultsobtainedfromthissystemwillnotprovideforcorrectpronunciationoftheoriginalThaitext.However,theywillserveasameansoffindingtheThaigraphismsautomaticallyandthustoallowanyonewithaknowledgeofThaitopronouncetheThaitextcorrectly.AnattempttotransposeapreposedvowelafteraninitialconsonantmaycomfortthosewhoareusedtotheRomanwritingsystemwhereavowelalwaysfollowsaconsonanttoformasyllable,unlessitisasyllablewithoutaninitial.ItisbesttoleavethepreposedvowelintheThaitransliterationsystemwhereitis,becauseatransliterationsystemisnotatranscriptionsystem.Capitallettersarereservedforwritingtheinitialinpropernouns.Itisunwisetomakeuseofcapitallettersinthetransliterationsystemforcertaincharacters,otherwisecommonnounsandpropernounscannotbedistinguishedfromoneanother.Thissystemisbasedonphoneticlogicintheselectionoftransliteratedrepresentations,asmuchaspossible,inordertolessentheburdenonthosewhowishtolearnthesystem.note:1)Definitions,explanationsfortermsused(transliteration,transcription,etc.)appearinannexA.
